Hello all,

I'm looking for a bit of direction for on upcoming programming project.

A little background before I get to my real question. I've been a programmer for going on 10 years, working on a wide range of applications, from micro-controller firmware in assembly and C, to CGI applications written in C++ and Perl. This being said, I have had very little experience with windows application programming and the whole Visual Studio thing.

Here is my question. My upcoming project involves re-writing a somewhat complex windows based application that controls some industrial machinery. I've started defining the modules and dll's that this project will use, but don't know what direction to go as far as what language to write this thing in. I'm assuming that C++ is the way to go, but do I use .NET? ATL? MFC? I know this is a very general question, but I'm just trying to get an understanding of the issues involved in this decision. Also, any resources or books that anyone could recommend would be great.

Thanks for any advice you can give.
